Andy Murray’s 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-4 victory over Nikoloz Basilashvili at the Australian Open on Tuesday wasn’t just a monumental effort—the match lasted three hours and 52 minutes—but there was a little bit of history to it, too.

It was Murray’s 49th career win at the Australian Open, which means the three-time major winner surpasses Ivan Lendl and Andre Agassi for standalone fifth place on the list of most career wins at the Australian Open for a man in the Open Era.

MOST CAREER WINS AT AUSTRALIAN OPEN (men, Open Era)
102: Roger Federer (102-15)
82: Novak Djokovic (82-8)
70: Rafael Nadal (70-15)
56: Stefan Edberg (56-10)
49: Andy Murray (49-13)
48: Ivan Lendl (48-10)
48: Andre Agassi (48-5)

Murray will go for his milestone 50th career win at the Australian Open on Thursday as he takes on Japanese qualifier Taro Daniel in the second round.

Murray’s win over Basilashvili was also his first win at the Australian Open in five years—his last win at the event was a third-round win over Sam Querrey in 2017.
