Stat of the Day: Andy Murray records milestone 200th Grand Slam win of career at US Open
He’s just the eighth man in the Open Era to hit that number.
Andy Murray made a winning start to his US Open campaign on Tuesday, beating Corentin Moutet in the first round, 6-2, 7-5, 6-3.
And with his victory over the Frenchman, Murray hits a major milestone: it was the 200th Grand Slam win of his career.
The three-time Grand Slam champion and former world No. 1 is just the eighth man in the Open Era to hit that number.
MOST GRAND SLAM MATCH WINS (men, Open Era):
369: Roger Federer [369-60]
355: Novak Djokovic [355-48]
314: Rafael Nadal [314-43]
233: Jimmy Connors [233-49]
224: Andre Agassi [224-53]
222: Ivan Lendl [222-49]
203: Pete Sampras [203-38]
200: Andy Murray [200-54]
178: Stefan Edberg [178-47]
167: John McEnroe [167-38]

It looked like Murray and Moutet might split sets after Moutet built a 5-3 lead in the second set and had two set points serving for the set at 5-4, but Murray broke back, snuck out the second set and eventually closed it out in straight sets.
“I thought I did well. Difficult match against a very skillful opponent, a very different game style to pretty much all of the guys on the tour now,” the Brit said afterwards.
“And yeah, there were a lot of long points and tricky moments out there, a lot of stuff going on out there on the court. I did well to get it done in three sets.”
Awaiting Murray in the second round will be a familiar face in Grigor Dimitrov, the No. 19 seed here, who fought off three match points to pull off a miraculous 6-7 (9), 6-7 (5), 6-1, 7-5, 7-6 (9) victory over Slovakia’s Alex Molcan in four hours and 38 minutes.
Murray is 8-3 in his career against Dimitrov, and 8-2 on hard courts. They’ve met once before at the US Open, with Murray winning in the fourth round in 2016, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.
