Stat of the Day: Anett Kontaveit has now won her last 20 indoor matches in a row
It’s the longest indoor winning streak on the women’s tour since Justine Henin won 22 in a row between 2007 and 2010.
Anett Kontaveit’s complete domination of indoor tournaments continued in St. Petersburg, Russia this week, as she extended her indoor winning streak to 20 matches (and four titles) in a row by beating Maria Sakkari in the final of the WTA 500 event, 5-7, 7-6 (4), 7-5.
It’s the longest indoor winning streak since Justine Henin won 22 in a row between 2007 Stuttgart and 2010 Stuttgart.
Even scarier—although she was on the brink of defeat against Sakkari in the St. Petersburg final on Sunday, rallying from a set down, 2-0 down in the second set and 5-2 down in the third—it was only the third time in the streak that she’s been pushed to three sets.
