Stat of the Day: Carlos Alcaraz has now won his first four career finals in straight sets

None of the Big 3—nor anyone else in the Top 10 right now—won their first four finals, let alone all in straight sets.

MATCH POINT: C. Alcaraz def. P. Carreno; Barcelona F1:33

With his 6-3, 6-2 victory over Pablo Carreno Busta in the final of the ATP 500 clay-court event in Barcelona today, Carlos Alcaraz captured the fourth ATP title of his career—even more impressive is that he’s now 4-0 in his career in ATP finals, and even more impressive is that he’s won all of those finals in straight sets.

CARLOS ALCARAZ IN ATP FINALS: 4-0 (8-0 in sets)
d. Gasquet in 2021 Umag final, 6-2, 6-2
d. Schwartzman in 2022 Rio de Janeiro final, 6-4, 6-2
d. Ruud in 2022 Miami final, 7-5, 6-4
d. Carreno Busta in 2022 Barcelona final, 6-3, 6-2

To put this in a bit of historical perspective, none of the Big 3 even won their first four career finals, let alone all in straight sets—Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic both went 3-1 in their first four finals, while Roger Federer actually went 1-3 in his first four.

No one else in the current Top 10 of the ATP rankings—not Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Matteo Berrettini, Casper Ruud, Andrey Rublev, Felix Auger-Aliassime or Cam Norrie—won their first four career finals, either.
