Stat of the Day: Iga Swiatek strikes 30 in her monster 2022 winning streak
She’s also won 46 of the last 47 sets she’s played.
Iga Swiatek stormed past Alison Riske in the second round of Roland Garros today, 6-0, 6-2, extending her monster of a winning streak to 30 matches in a row.
She already held the fourth-longest women’s winning streak since 2000, and she’s now joined Venus Williams, Serena Williams and Justine Henin as the only four women to win 30 or more matches in a row since the turn of the century.
She went 5-0 to win Doha, 6-0 to win Indian Wells, 6-0 to win Miami, 2-0 in Billie Jean King Cup, 4-0 to win Stuttgart and 5-0 to win Rome, and is now 2-0 so far in Paris.
She’s also served up a tour-leading 15 6-0 sets this year now.
LONGEST WOMEN’S WINNING STREAKS SINCE 2000:
35: Venus Williams in 2000 (snapped by Lindsay Davenport in Linz)
34: Serena Williams in 2013 (snapped by Sabine Lisicki at Wimbledon)
32: Justine Henin in 2007-2008 (snapped by Maria Sharapova at Australian Open)
30: Iga Swiatek in 2022 (still active)
Swiatek’s win on Thursday was also the 100th WTA win of her career.
The world No. 1 has now won 46 of the last 47 sets she’s played, too, a stretch that started during her 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 fourth-round win over Angelique Kerber at Indian Wells—since then the only set she’s dropped came during her 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-5 victory against Liudmila Samsonova in the semifinals of Stuttgart.
