World No. 1 Novak Djokovic kept his perfect record in US Open quarterfinals intact on Wednesday night, dropping the first set but then steamrolling No. 8-ranked Matteo Berrettini to advance to the semifinals with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 victory.

The Serb is now 12-0 in quarterfinal matches at Flushing Meadows.

“It was a great match. A lot of energy on the court, a lot of energy off the court as well,” he said. “Matteo is a terrific player, an established Top 10 player. Every time we face each other it’s always a close battle, and it wasn’t any different tonight.”

Djokovic now has a 41-9 record in quarterfinal matches across all the Grand Slams, going 9-3 at the Australian Open, 10-4 at Roland Garros and 10-2 at Wimbledon.

With his win over Berrettini he also improved to 7-0 against Top 10 players at majors this year, beating Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev in Melbourne, Berrettini, Rafael Nadal and Stefanos Tsitsipas in Paris and Berrettini again at Wimbledon.

Awaiting Djokovic in the US Open semifinals on Friday will be Zverev, who beat the Serb in the semifinals of the Olympics in Tokyo this summer.
