Stat of the Day: Rafael Nadal breaks all-time record with 21st career Grand Slam title
Was there really any other choice?
Sometimes it’s tough to pick which stat to go with for Stat of the Day, but this one couldn’t have been more obvious.
With his unbelievable 2-6, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 victory over Daniil Medvedev in the final of the Australian Open on Sunday night (and Monday morning), Rafael Nadal won his 21st career Grand Slam title, breaking the all-time men’s record.
MOST CAREER GRAND SLAM TITLES (men, all-time)
21: Rafael Nadal
20: Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic
14: Pete Sampras
12: Roy Emerson
11: Rod Laver, Bjorn Borg
10: Bill Tilden
Nadal has also won every major at least twice now, just the second man in the Open Era to do so after Djokovic, and the fourth man all-time (Emerson did it pre-Open Era, and Laver did it in a combination of Open Era and pre-Open Era).
