Svitolina battles past Bouzkova in three hours for Monterrey title
After a slow start to the season, Elina Svitolina captured her first title of 2020 and improved to 14-3 in finals.
Things weren't looking pretty for Elina Svitolina after her 4-5 start to the season, but she bounced back in a big way in Monterrey, Mexico, fending off the talented 21-year-old Marie Bouzkova 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 to capture her 14th career WTA singles title.
Coming off three consecutive losses prior to the tournament, Svitolina's trending UTR ranked her all the way outside the Top-50. But she found her form this week, dropping just one set en route to her first title of 2020.

The victory ends a year-long title drought for Svitolina, who last lifted the trophy at the 2018 WTA Finals. By reaching the final, both Svitolina and Bouzkova avoided an unnecessary trip to Indian Wells, as the 2020 BNP Paribas Open championship has been cancelled due to a local coronavirus (COVID-19) case.
