TBT: Williams sisters win gold at 2000 Olympic Games

The sisters were golden in Sydney.

It's been 17 years since Venus and Serena Williams won gold medals side-by-side at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. Serena was just a newly-minted 20-year-old, and Venus was 21.

Earlier that week, Venus became the first Williams sister to appear on an Olympic podium, winning the singles gold over Elena Dementieva.

Miriam Oremans has a point. The Williams sisters would win gold again at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics (where Serena took home the singles gold). Venus Williams added a mixed doubles silver in Rio last year (with Rajeev Ram).

These days, Venus Williams is No. 5 in the world at the age of 37. While Serena's ranking has slipped with her maternity leave, she's likely to return to the top of the game in 2018.
