Tennis tributes to Notre Dame Cathedral pour in after devastating fire
"Going to sleep still under shock with the images we see in Paris," tweeted Rafael Nadal. "All my support to all Parisians and French people and authorities."
On Monday, a disastrous fire nearly destroyed Paris' Notre Dame Cathedral, a historic French landmark revered around the world. It took fire fighters nine hours to extinguish the flames, and they managed to save the iconic structure's main frame and towers. Unfortunately, much of the roof was lost, and the spire collapsed.
French President Emmanuel Macron vowed that he and his compatriots will "rebuild this cathedral together." Taking a cue from Macron, private donors have already pledged millions of dollars to help rebuild the beloved landmark.
Notre Dame is located a few miles from Roland Garros, which kicks off its 2019 edition next month. Every year during the French Open, tennis players visit the Cathedral during their off days.
As the flames ravaged the Cathedral, the tennis community took to social media to pay their tributes.
