Text the cat sitter! Marketa Vondrousova shares husband to travel in for Wimbledon final
The Czech confirmed her Centre Court box will welcome two additions Saturday after winning her semifinal over Elina Svitolina.
Having a reliable cat sitter on call can go a long way. Just ask Marketa Vondrousova.
On Thursday, the Czech advanced to her second major singles final after ending Elina Svitolina’s run, 6-3, 6-3, on Centre Court. Vondrousova, who made her Grand Slam final debut four years earlier at Roland Garros, hasn't benefited from a full support team being with her at SW19.
One key member, husband Stepan, was at home taking care of their pet: cat Frankie. That won’t be the case this weekend, as Vondrousova shared in her press conference.
“He's coming tomorrow with my sister. We texted the cat sitter to come to our home,” beamed the 24-year-old.
Vondrousova had earlier been asked during the tournament about her love for tattoos and how she approaches each one like its own piece of art. The left-hander revealed following her win over Svitolina that the stakes on the line Saturday go beyond winning a first major title.
“I have a bet with my coach (Jan Mertl). If I win a Grand Slam, he's going to get one, so I hope I will.”
A first-time major winner will be celebrated at the All England Club, as Vondrousova meets Ons Jabeur, a 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-3 winner over Aryna Sabalenka. The Tunisian finished runner-up here last year to Elena Rybakina and endured the same end result at the US Open when Iga Swiatek outclassed her in the Flushing Meadows final.
A victory by Vondrousova would enable the Olympic silver medalist to vault inside the Top 10 for the first time in her career.
