Thanasi Kokkinakis wins five-set marathon at Roland Garros over Stan Wawrinka
The Australian avoided a loss similar to what he endured in Melbourne, against Andy Murray.
Stan Wawrinka was going to prevail in five sets, like he did in the first round of Roland Garros.
Thanasi Kokkinakis was going to lose a marathon against a three-time Grand Slam champion—like he did at this year's Australian Open.
It appeared to be déjà vu, in two ways, on Court Simonne Mathieu.
But after four hours and 38 minutes, we got something new: Kokkinakis emerged the winner, instead of a devastated runner-up, while Wawrinka's Parisian magic ran out.
More to come.
