The Baseline Top 10: Federer's Rogers Cup appearances

Roger Federer recently announced he's going to play the Rogers Cup in Montreal, which starts Monday. You'd think that he'd have a stronger affinity for the tournament that bears his name, but the Swiss often skips it for Cincinnati. It's hard to argue when he's won seven titles in Cincy.
Let's see how he's fared up North in his storied career:
1
2000
Federer made his Rogers Cup debut 17 years ago. Ranked No. 38 back then, his showing was forgettable with a first-round loss to Lleyton Hewitt.
2
2003
After dropping another first-rounder in 2002, the Swiss reached the semifinals on his third attempt. He would be stunned by a red-hot Andy Roddick, who would win the US Open just a few weeks later for his first, and only, Grand Slam title.
3
2004
With the Rogers Cup in Toronto, Federer stormed to his first Rogers Cup crown. He got his sweet revenge over Roddick in the final.
4
2006
Back in Montreal, Federer thrilled fans with another title win. This time, he was pushed to three sets in his final four matches, including in the final over Richard Gasquet.
5
2007
Federer reached a third Rogers Cup final, only to be thwarted by an up-and-coming Novak Djokovic. It was the Serb's first time ever beating Federer.
6
2008
In an appearance he'll want to forget, Federer dropped his opening round to Frenchman Gilles Simon.

7
2009
After the blip in 2008, Federer beat his compatriot Stan Wawrinka but stumbled out in the quarterfinals to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
8
2010
In Toronto, the Swiss made his way to a fourth career Rogers Cup final. This time it was Andy Murray who tripped him up.

9
2011
This marks the last time Federer made an appearance in Montreal. Forgive him for the hard feelings, as he lost in the fourth round, again to Tsonga, despite this opening game:
10
2014
It seems Tsonga has Federer's number in Canada. In what was Federer's most recent Rogers Cup showing, he lost to the Frenchman in the final in Toronto.
With Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka all out of Montreal already, Federer will have a big shot at picking up Canadian title No. 3.
