The Deuce Club, 1.22

Pete wrote a post this week about the AO court color, called "What's With This Blue?", and I find myself asking that same question, but regarding the clothing. It's everywhere: Henin, Murray, Safina and other members of the Adidas gang sported the color, as did Federer, Lopez, and Wickmayer. And those are just the folks I can think of off the top of my head! Don't get me wrong, I love blue and think it looks great on most everyone, but considering the courts are the same color, you'd think we'd be seeing outfits providing some contrast.

Yellow was also a popular color. Not my preference, but at least those players don't blend in with the courts. Just the balls, ha!

Speaking of Adidas, what's with the random lines on the backs of both the girls' and guys' kits? They're totally unnecessary. Befuddling, too; don't they remind you of something, like the slots in a paper doll where you have to tuck the flaps in?

Now on to some of my favorite and least favorite WTA outfits. Though the following ladies were a colossal letdown in the tennis department, they didn't disappoint when it came to fashion. The two "Vitches" - Ivanovic and Jankovic - looked fantastic. Ana's yellow and black Adidas outfit was sleek, yet simple and functional. A vast improvement from last year's what's-going-on-with-that-neckline faux-pas. Jelena's unique ANTA dress caught my eye immediately; the variations of blue and the tiered skirt were flirty and fun, like JJ herself!

95905705 Surprisingly, I also didn't mind Nike's colorful looks for players like Azarenka and Safarova, unlike so many of y'all. You know how fond I am of pink, and their outfits featured plenty of it. But not only that, they were different (and not egregiously so), and playful. Plus, they fit really well; Nike usually excels in that department.

As for outfits I didn't care for, I'd have to name those worn by Sharapova and Venus. Maria's wasn't bad, really - just a little too complicated. I'm sure it would've grown on me over time, but alas, I wasn't given any, what with her unceremonious exit. As for Vee, while I'm a fan of the yellow and brown color combination, the dramatic slits on the skirt didn't appeal to me. They bordered on scandalous (am I too modest?), especially in tandem with the plunging neckline.

Do you agree with my assessment? What are your picks for the best and worst outfits at this year's AO?

Let's move on to the tennis itself. What are your picks for the most memorable matches from the first five days of action? What about biggest upsets? For matches, I'd think the top contenders have to include Henin vs. Dementieva, Youzhny vs. Gasquet, and del Potro vs. Blake. Allow me to call out the Henin/Dementieva match, in particular, as I can't stop raving about it. I had lofty expectations - who didn't? - and they were more than met, which so rarely happens. The first set was one of the best sets of women's tennis I've seen in ages. In the "biggest upset" category, you'd have to consider the Sharapova, Soderling, and Clijsters losses (that final one not so much because she lost but because of how she lost). But far be it for me to limit your choices; tell us which matches and which upsets affected you the most!

Turning it over to you now. And if you tire of talking about fashion or matches, feel free to delve into other topics like funny press conference quotes, assessments of the TV coverage (I forgive ESPN2 of all of its programming transgressions after seeing the hilarious "Just smile, Andy!" video package), or your performance in the TAT Suicide Pool. Knock yourselves out, and enjoy Day 6!
