Good evening, TWibe! How 'bout the World Series, eh?  Last night, the Philadelphia Phillies won only their second World Series title in their 126-year history, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays four games to one. It was a competitive - and rain-soaked! - series, and I enjoyed every moment of it. In fact, I enjoyed the entire postseason, disappointing showing by the Cubs and White Sox notwithstanding. I miss it already.

Halloween is upon us! I've never been very fond of the holiday, but I've decided to be a sport and dress up for my office costume party tomorrow. Hopefully my "I Dream of Jackie" look is a hit.

I'm not quite sure why Halloween is my least favorite holiday. Maybe it stems from awkward experiences I had in grade school, spending hours getting a costume together only to have your classmates not know what/who the heck you are. Or maybe it's because scaring people (or being scared!) is hardly my favorite pastime. Or maybe it has to do with all that candy.

Actually, I think it has the most to do with the "costumes" worn by young ladies nowadays.

My friend Lynn says the reason why she dislikes Halloween is because people don't act like themselves that day. Since they're in costume, they feel like they can behave however they want without bearing responsibility for their actions. It's a little over my head, but I guess it makes sense on some level.

Still, when I see trick-or-treaters, my heart just melts! It reminds me of how exciting Halloween used to be, when I was a tyke (prior to those costume debacle years, of course). I felt such great anticipation for all that the holiday entailed - getting dressed up, going door to door, gobbling up scores of treats. It was the epitome of fun. Seeing other kids experience those same joys never fails to bring a smile to my face; it dispels any lingering unpleasant thoughts and takes all the "bah humbug" out of me. And so, at the end of the day, all that's left to say is, "Maybe Halloween isn't so bad after all."

I can't wait to see what the kids come up with this year. My candy bowl is at the ready.

I'd be thrilled if anyone came to my door dressed like this. Anyone here brave enough to give it a shot? At least you'd be assured that no one else would show up to your costume party sporting the same look. (Rachael the Almighty posted that link originally - bless her.)

Now it's time for you to share your Halloween experiences. What do you remember about Halloween as a kid? Are you (and/or your kids) dressing up this year, and if so, as what? What kinds of costumes have you worn in the past and what was your favorite?

(My favorite costume wasn't even one I wore myself - I saw it on a complete stranger. A man was dressed in hot pink, from head to toe, and had a loafer tied to the top of his head. I didn't have a clue what he was, so I approached him and asked, "Um, what are you supposed to be?" He replied, "I'm gum under your shoe." Brilliant.)
