The Deuce Club, 9.11

By Heidi Kim, TW Contributing Writer***

For those of you too tired from two weeks of exciting, tropical storm-laden tennis to follow more tennis this week, here is your OT thread as usual.

The picture above is from the Jamfest that Pete invited us all to last Friday (I can't believe it; feels like it was a year ago).  Wayne Bryan and Murphy Jensen hosted, which meant that Jensen tried to tell the noisy crowd about the Junior Tennis Center, and Bryan played with the band all night long.  The Bryan brothers, newly crowned doubles champs, mingled just a little bit and played several songs -- you see them above with one on keyboard, one on guitar.  I can tell them apart, but just can't remember which did which.  The guitar player also played drums very briefly.  Also in attendance were Justin Gimelstob and, briefly, Pam Shriver.  You could basically pick out the tennis players in attendance by height.

Very nice party, excellent cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, with a crowd ranging from casual and bored-looking to young and ready to party.  A lot of the folks there were with the Crowne Plaza hotel chain, which was having a kind of retreat/conference; one spouse told me that the Bryans had come to the hotel's special suite beforehand to sign autographs, pose for photos, etc.  I guess that explains the general sponsorship of this party, because I was a little baffled at first as to whether we were raising money (just awareness, I think), and how we were doing it if the event was free.

The band was notable more for enthusiasm than great voices, but the sound was good and the dance floor eventually got pretty active.  A great "after-party," as it was called, though of course there were still two finals to go.

As usual, please send in your photos and stories for DC.  You make this weekly post happen!
