The WTA Elite Trophy is underway in Zhuhai

Seven hundred valuable points are on the line this week in China.

You'd expect the WTA season to end with the WTA Finals but the tour has one more treat for fans and players.

The WTA Elite Trophy, a round-robin tournament that will be contested this week in Zhuhai, China, showcases 12 of the best players left out of Singapore.

The bench of WTA talent has been notably deep this year, so this event—featuring the 2017 Indian Wells and US Open champions, as well as a former No. 1—is definitely one to pay attention to.

Here are the groups and competitors.

The Russian battled to a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win over Angelique Kerber to close out Day 1 on Tuesday.
