Thiem says he doesn't like Mother's Day

Dominic Thiem feels right at home on the clay courts of Monte Carlo, so much so he's willing to be honest about pretty much everything. Asked about celebrating Mother's Day next month, Thiem had this to say: "I’m honest, I don't like Mother's Day because I love my mother every day the same."

The Austrian is in good spirits looking ahead to his week in Monaco. He loves playing on clay, as proven by the fact that seven of his nine ATP crowns have come on dirt.

The world No. 7 started his comeback from an ankle injury with a dramatic win over Andrey Rublev, 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 on Tuesday. The No. 5 seed, had to save a match point in the third set to keep his hopes alive.

"I was 10 centimeters from being out of the tournament," Thiem said. "But I'm happy that I played two hours and 40 (minutes)."
