Naomi Osaka vs. Sara Errani
The only previous meeting between these two players was at the Miami Open in 2016, where Osaka obliterated Errani in a straight-set victory. Despite some early-season struggles, Osaka seems to be finding her form—could history repeat itself? Not if fellow veteran Errani has anything to say. She won't back down, and there could be some serious heat on Stadiium 1. Winner: Naomi Osaka
Denis Shapovalov vs. Botic van de Zandschulp
Both of these relatively young players could use a big result. Shapovalov quickly climbed the ladder and cracked the Top 10, but has now fallen out of the Top 100. The Dutchman, on the other hand, has had a steadier approach onto the scene, earning a reputation for being a wall to get through. With no head-to-head record to speak of, this battle is expected to be a physical feat for both players, most likely splitting sets along the way. Winner: Botic van de Zandschulp
Sloane Stephens vs. Mayar Sherif
Sherif is a solid competitor that has the arsenal to contend against the top players, although she isn’t herself near the top just yet. Stephens, on the other hand, has been to the top, taken it in for all its glory, and has settled into the middle of the pack. This matchup will be worth your time: Both players have a lot to prove, both to themselves and to the world watching, and their competitive baseline games should match up well. No matter the result, or duration of the match, games will be hard earned. Winner: Sloane Stephens
