At the 2000 Olympics, Roger Federer just missed out on bringing home a medal for his country when he was edged out for bronze by Arnaud Di Pasquale. But not all was lost in Sydney for the Swiss teenager—for it was the place where he met the love of his life, Miroslava "Mirka" Federer.

As Federer blossomed into a global icon sustaining remarkable longevity, he often credited Mirka’s ongoing support and love for driving him forward. Now, the time has come for the 20-time major champion to hang up his racquet.

As the 41-year-old prepares to bid adieu at the Laver Cup in London, we celebrate one of the sport’s most beloved pairings with a trip down memory lane:
