Another Grand Slam final, another upset of Serena Williams.

The season was a breakthrough year for Andreescu. She began by winning Indian Wells and catapulting herself into the top echelon. Yet, for all of her success, there was some doubt at her chances of securing a 2019 Grand Slam title.

Coming into the US Open final, the Canadian had never played on the biggest stage in tennis. She had never gone passed the second round in a major. After three Grand Slam final losses in a row, Serena was seemed poised for Grand Slam No. 24 against a newcomer.

Instead, two sets later and Andreescu was raising the trophy as the first Canadian player ever to win a singles Grand Slam.
