Through the years: Andy Murray reflects on Roland Garros memories2:18

On Tuesday, Andy Murray announced that the Paris Olympics would be the final tennis tournament of his career. To celebrate his legacy, we're counting down five of his most amazing career stats, one a day, until the tournament begins on Saturday.

Yesterday, we kicked things off with his 2012 US Open title, which made him the first British man to win a Grand Slam title in 76 years.

Today, a big feat against a big trio…

Beating Roger, Rafa and Novak seven (or more) times each

Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray were once collectively referred to as the Big 4 until the first three of them—the Big 3—began pulling away in the Grand Slam count.

But year after year Murray remained their biggest challenger, and the head-to-head numbers back it up—he’s the only player ever to defeat each of them seven or more times each. He’s actually the only player ever to beat each of them even six or more times each.

MURRAY’S CAREER WINS OVER THE BIG 3:

  • 11 wins against Federer [11-14 overall]
  • 7 wins against Nadal [7-17 overall]
  • 11 wins against Djokovic [11-25 overall]

The only other player with five or more career wins over each of the Big 3 is Dominic Thiem, who defeated Federer five times, Nadal six times and Djokovic five times. Thiem is retiring this year, too.
