Naomi Osaka reunited with the Australian Open trophy at the official draw ceremony in Melbourne. Osaka closed her 2019 with titles in Osaka and Beijing and will open next week against Marie Bouzkova.

In Hobart, Heather Watson squeezed past world No. 17 Elise Mertens 6-7 (5), 6-4 7-5, to set up a semifinal clash against Elena Rybakina. It's Watson's first Top-20 win since Wimbledon in 2017.
