Naomi Osaka put forth a routine 6-2, 6-4 win over Zheng Saisai. Despite some confusion in her post-match interview, Osaka cannot regain the No. 1 ranking in Melbourne. She will next face 15-year-old Coco Gauff.

World No. 2 Novak Djokovic gave up just seven games in his second-round matchup against Tatsuma Ito. The Serbian defeated the wildcard 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 in 95 minutes. Djokovic will face another Japanese player, Yoshihito Nishioka, for a spot in the round of 16.

Caroline Wozniacki came back from big deficits in both sets to squeak past Dayana Yastremska, 7-5, 7-5. The Dane lives to play another day, with the Australian Open being her final tournament. She takes on Ons Jabeur next. The Tunisian has taken out Johanna Konta and Caroline Garcia.

Gauff found her way back from a 3-0 final set deficit against Romanian Sorana Cirstea. She was able to change her tactics and remain composed to post a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory. the teen will next face defending champion Osaka, who she fell to 6-3, 6-0 at last year's US Open.
