Sofia Kenin trailed 15-year-old Coco Gauff by a set, but her experience kicked in and led her to a 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-0 victory. Kenin threw her racquet in the air upon reaching her first career Grand Slam quarterfinal. She will face Ons Jabeur next.

Petra Kvitova roared into the quarterfinals after defeating Maria Sakkari ,6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-2. Kvitova was able to find her rhythm and adjust to Sakkari's style, and is two wins away from defending her finalist finish.

Roger Federer had a slow start, but turned it around quickly to defeat Marton Fucsovics, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2. Hitting 36 unforced errors, the Swiss seemed to be a little off, but he picked up his level to set up a quarterfinal against Tennys Sandgren.

Sandgren beat No. 12-seeded Fabio Fognini in four sets to reach his second career Australian Open quarterfinals. Unseeded, Sandgren also upset No. 8-seeded Matteo Berrettini in the second round.
