The WTA is settling into Abu Dhabi. Sofia Kenin, Aryna Sabalenka and more are seeking match play before heading to Australia. On Friday, there was no shortage of world class tennis.

Sofia Kenin

Abu Dhabi's top seed was put to the test against Kirsten Flipkens. Although it was a close encounter for the American, it ended quite abruptly when the German was forced to retire at, 5-7, 5-4, down due to a left ankle injury. Kenin was visibly upset for her friend.

"We’re good friends and that’s not something you like to see," Kenin said. "I just hope [Flipkens] can have a speedy recovery and get ready for Australia."

Aryna Sabalenka

The Belarusian continued her roll by upping her winning streak to 11 consecutive matches. She hasn't lost since Roland Garros and on Friday edged past Ajla Tomljanovic 7-5, 6-4. The world No. 10 will face Ons Jabeur in the WTA 500's third round.

Ons Jabeur

The No.15 seed proved once again she's always prepared for a fight. Jabeur fired off 11 aces against qualifier Kateryna Bondarenko to come back and post a 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 win. Jabeur is friends with Bondarenko and often practices with her, so she was ready for the big game she's capable of playing.

"I know how good she can play, I know how fast she can play. Today it was really a difficult match and I’m glad that I won," Jabeur told press.

Sara Sorribes Tormo

It was a thrilling second round affair between Sorribes Tormo and American Bernarda Pera. After a grueling three hours and trading hard-hitting shots from all corners of the court, the Spaniard would come out on top, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.

Paula Badosa

The Spaniard had another impressive day at the office when she defeated Alize Cornet 6-4, 6-4. Badosa managed to attack and step into the court at all the right times, while also showcasing solid defensive play.
