After eight hours of drama, Australia pulled out a quarterfinal win over Great Britain in Sydney. Nick Kyrgios and Alex de Minaur saved four match points to win an 18-16 super-tiebreaker over Jamie Murray and Joe Salisbury, which warranted a wild celebration.

Caroline Wozniacki is into her sixth Auckland quarterfinal in seven years. The Dane posted a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, over American Lauren Davis. "I got a little lucky in the end and it could have gone both ways," Wozniacki said.

Serena Williams got off to a slow start against Christina McHale, but was able to deny her an upset in Auckland, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. In the quarterfinals, she will face Laura Siegemund.

It was a tense matchup between Russia's Daniil Medvedev and Argentina's Diego Schwartzman in Sydney. Medvedev would win, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, but not without confrontation and a point penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.

In Brisbane, Naomi Osaka recorded a tight win over Sofia Kenin. After failing to convert four set points in the first set, Osaka fought back, 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-1, to advance into the quarterfinals.
