Top 5 Photos 10/4: Thiem survives five set scare in Paris
It was a day full of spectacular upsets in Paris, but a few top names managed to escape the trend and continue their quest on the dirt.
These are the Top 5 photos from Sunday at Roland Garros.
1
Dominic Thiem
French wildcard Hugo Gaston pushed the US Open champion to the limit in their round of 16 bout. With a blistering body serve, Thiem disassembled the Frenchman, 6-4, 6-4, 5-7, 3-6, 6-3, to reach his fifth consecutive Roland Garros quarterfinal. The Austrian is now 10-7 in five-set matches and will face Diego Schwartzman next.

Elina Svitolina
The Ukrainian is the only Top 10 member remaining in the women's draw. The No. 3 seed easily knocked out Caroline Garcia, 6-1, 6-3, after previously falling to the Frenchwoman three consecutive times. Svitolina will take on qualifier Nadia Podoroska who is having a dream run on the terre battue.

Kristina Mladenovic and Timea Babos
After a rough time at this year's US Open, the reigning Roland Garros champions are back in superb form as they dominated Patricia Maria Tig and Andreea Mitu, 6-1, 6-3, to secure their quarterfinal spot. The duo was withdrawn from the US Open last month because of Mladenovic's close contact with Benoit Paire who tested positive for COVID-19 at the event.

Diego Schwartzman
Only giving up eight games, the Argentine is through to the final eight in Paris. Schwartzman knocked out Italy's Lorenzo Sonego, 6-1, 6-3, 6-4, to advance to his second quarterfinal showing on the dirt and has yet to lose a set.

That's seven matches in a row for the Italian qualifier. Trevisan's dream run continued with another upset, this time posting a 6-4, 6-4 score against No. 5 seed Kiki Berten to capture her Top 10 victory.
"I think today the intensity of my play, it was really good. I was really aggressive," Trevisan said. "Maybe it's the one of the best matches I played here in Paris.
