Wawrinka was down but not out against the in-form Rublev. Although he lost the first set, Wawrinka quickly tied things up before eventually knocking out the Russian, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. The world No. 20 is through to the last eight and will battle Alexander Zverev for a spot in the semifinals.

Rafael Nadal
The Spaniard collected his 1,001 match win against Jordan Thompson. Nadal encountered some issues in the second-set tiebreaker, but managed to pull out 6-1, 7-6 (3) victory, having saved a set point at, 5-6, 30-40, in the second set. Nadal will face No. 9 seed Pablo Carreno Busta for a place in the semifinals.

Ugo Humbert
The Frenchman continued his spectacular run on his home turf by defeating Marin Cilic, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-3, to advance into the last eight. The world No. 34 has now claimed eight consecutive matches. Humbert, who took the Antwerp title a little under two weeks ago, will next face No. 10 seed Milos Raonic.

Daniil Medvedev
The Russian found another gear after dropping the opening set against Alex de Minaur at the Masters 1000 event. Medvedev managed to find the corners of the court, ultimately taking down the Aussie, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. The world No. 5 will face Diego Schwartzman on Friday, carrying a 3-0 record in their head-to-head series.

The world No. 9 is now just one win away from claiming his first trip to the season-ending ATP Finals. Schwartzman dismissed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, 6-1, 6-1, in just 61 minutes. The 28-year-old will try to crack Medvedev's spotless record against him, with the Russian winning a tense three-setter at January's ATP Cup.
