Day 9 at the Australian Open saw Serena Williams inch closer to Grand Slam No. 24 and Aslan Karatsev's miraculous run stay alive.

Ranked No. 114, Karatsev had never played a Grand Slam main draw in his 27 years on earth. Now he's through to the semifinals after a four-set win over Grigor Dimitrov. He will attempt to oust world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, and after seeing him play all fortnight long, nothing is impossible.

Grigor Dimitrov started off hot against Karatsev, but a back injury hampered his ability to serve and move properly. He finished out the match, but it may have served him better to retire as he lost,  2-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2.

Naomi Osaka was efficient in a 6-2, 6-2 win over Hsieh Su-Wei. Though she had a winning record against the 35-year-old, the world No. 3 knew to expect a challenge. She takes on Serena Williams next in a highly-anticipated semifinal.

Serena also had an efficient day in the office, easing past two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep, 6-3, 6-3. The American hit 34 winners to Halep's nine. The last time they had faced off was in the Wimbledon final in 2019 when Halep has won handily.

While Djokovic is heavily favorite against the qualifier from Russia Karatsev, he's been dealing with an abdominal injury. Still, he performed well in his four-set win over Alexander Zverev, despite the taping on his stomach.
