N. Djokovic vs. T. Fritz: Second Round

Day 3 in Rome got off to a thrilling start, but the rain did put a damper on things for a while and caused a lengthy delay at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia.

Denis Shapovalov

It was a solid day at the office for the Canadian men. The 22-year-old dominated past qualifier Kamil Majchrzak, 6-1, 6-3. Rome's No. 13 seed will next take on Italy's Stefano Travaglia for a spot in the last 16. Shapovalov had an impressive run on these courts in 2020—knocking out Grigor Dimitrov to reach the event's semifinal round.

Felix Auger-Aliassime

Against Diego Schwartzman, the 20-year-old posted an identical score to his friend and compatriot Shapovalov. This is the first Top 10 win for Auger-Aliassime since his straight-set victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas at Queen's Club in 2019.

Madison Keys

It's a little hard to believe that just a few years ago, Americans Keys and Sloane Stephens were battling in the US Open final, and now in Rome had to square off in the opening round as two unseeded players. In their sixth WTA tour-level matchup, Keys came out on top against friend Stephens with a topsy-turvy 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 win.

Kristina Mladenovic

The Frenchwoman fell to Vera Zvonareva in her final round of qualifying, but was granted a lucky-loser spot in Rome's main draw. Making the most of the opportunity, on Tuesday Mladenovic upset No. 10 seed Belinda Bencic, 6-3, 6-4. The world No. 53 will take on Petra Martic next.
