John Isner

At last month's Miami Open, the American found himself holding match point against Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut, but couldn't finish the job. On Wednesday in Madrid, the exact same story was told only flipped this time with Isner saving one match point to post a 6-4, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (6) score. The world 39 will next face Madrid's No. 6 seed Andrey Rublev for a quarterfinals spot.

Although Alcaraz had to face one of the toughest clay-court competitors in Nadal on Wednesday, he still had the coolest 18th birthday ever. The Spanish teen captured his opening round against Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in straight sets, but fell to the 20-time major champ 6-1, 6-2 in the Round of 32.
