Top 5 Photos, 9/30: Trevisan ends Gauff's hopes

It was a very eventful day in Paris, to say the least. Some players made history, others found new success and one competitor won only to be taken off the court in a wheelchair.

Martina Trevisan

The Italian qualifier shouted and jumped for joy after she secured her comeback victory against 16-year-old Coco Gauff. Trevisan picked up her first Top-50 win, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5,  to book her ticket into her maiden third-round appearance at a major event.

Upon entering Roland Garros, the 26-year-old only had one Top-100 victory and zero match wins at Grand Slam events.

Kiki Bertens

The world No. 8 managed to slip past Italian qualifier Sara Errani, 7-5 (5), 3-6, 9-7, to secure her place in the event's third round. However, due to cramps, Bertens would collapse to the ground following the last point of the match and Errani would storm off the court without a racquet tap.

"At one point I understand her frustration of course as well," Bertens said. "She had her opportunities, she didn't take them."

Greet Minnen and Alison Van Uytvanck

Talk about couple goals! Minnen and Van Uytvanck got off to a winning start in Paris by defeating Heather Watson and Lara Arruabarrena, 6-3, 6-2, in their opening round. The Belgians are set to square off against No. 8 seeds Veronika Kudermetova and Zhang Shuai next.

Alexander Zverev

This year's US Open finalist needed five sets, but he still slid into Roland Garros' third round. Zverev survived a tough test against Pierre Hugues Herbert but pulled out a 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-4 victory on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

Dominic Thiem

The US Open champion had another successful day at the office, this time against American Jack Sock. Thiem nearly was pushed to a fourth set, but saved multiple set points to secure a clean 6-1, 6-3, 7-6 (6) win. The Austrian will face Casper Ruud next.

"I was saving three set points to avoid a fourth set," Thiem said. "That's very important in the early rounds, to save energy, to play as less sets as possible."
