1. World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty returned home to Australia and received a warm hometown welcome. The French Open champion made a special appearance at the Queensland Tennis Centre on Thursday, where she spoke to a packed crowd and also hit with junior players following the reception. Barty announced she will start her 2020 season at the Brisbane International.
2. Alexander Zverev moved through to his seventh quarterfinal of 2019 after posting a 6-4, 7-6 (5) win over Federico Delbonis in Hamburg. The world No. 5, who next faces No. 58 Filip Krajinovic, is playing at his hometown tournament for the first time since 2016.
3. The ATP Tour 500 tournament in Hamburg has been around since 1892, making it the longest-running tennis tournament in Germany. The main court "Am Rothenbaum" holds 13,300 spectators and is the largest tennis arena in Germany.

Bernard Tomic is having a dramatic turn of events after being fined his entire prize money at Wimbledon for failing to meet minimum performance standards in his first-round loss to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The Australian dismissed American Bradley Klahn, 6-4, 6-4, in the second round. A victory over Tomic would see de Minaur post back-to-back wins for the first time since reaching the third round of the Australian Open (which followed a title run in Sydney).
