Day 8 at the US Open brought a number of players their best New York showings, while a couple more high seeds saw their tournament come to an end. These are the Top 5 photos from New York.

1. World No. 23 Donna Vekic proved that it's "not over until it's over" by rallying back from match point down to claim her fourth-round matchup with Julia Goerges, 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-3. This marks the 23-year-old's first time in the final eight of a Grand Slam event. Vekic will now face friend Belinda Bencic, who she defeated earlier this year at the French Open.

2. Matteo Berrettini, who set a career-high ranking in June after winning the grass event in Stuttgart, continues to enjoy a breakout season. Berrettini halted Russian Andrey Rublev, 6-1, 6-4, 7-6 (6), to advance into his first Grand Slam quarterfinal. The world No. 25 is the first Italian man to reach the last eight at the US Open in 42 years and can extend his run with a win over Gael Monfils or Pablo Andujar.

3. In two prior head-to-head matches this year, Belinda Bencic came out on top over Naomi Osaka. In Monday's fourth-round match, the outcome was no different, as the world No. 12 posted a 7-5, 6-4 victory to end the top seed's title defense. Bencic was consistent and moved the ball exceptionally well to secure her second quarterfinal appearance at the US Open.
