In Madrid, Kazakhstan's Alexander Bublik faced Great Britain's Daniel Evans for the first time. Bublik prevailed in a three-set fight to even up the scoreboard for Kazakhstan and force the doubles decider.

Jamie Murray and Neal Skupski then posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin and Alexander Bublik to put Great Britain into the quarterfinals.
