Tsitsipas, Bencic win the "10 Year Challenge"
She may have bowed out in straight-sets to an extremely strong Petra Kvitova in the Australian Open's third round, but Belinda Bencic continued her mastery of social media this week. Joining in on the #10YearChallenge trend, the Swiss player produced another spectacular post, again featuring a recurring character: Roger Federer.
Her new post arrived on the heels of her Hopman Cup documentation, in which she introduced selfie maven Federer to the next-level mirror-trophy take on the shot.
Bencic withstood three-set challenges from Katerina Siniakova and Yulia Putintseva before acquiescing to Kvitova. She departs from Melbourne with lessons learned, and that's certainly a positive way to take one's leave. For a player who turns (still just) 22 this March, that's a mature, heady way to operate.
Another young player though has just threatened her throne of #10YearChallenge champion. Stefanos Tsitsipas stunned his idol Roger Federer, 6-7 (11), 7-6 (3), 7-5, 7-6 (5) to reach his first major quarterfinal, in Melbourne.
Tsitsipas was understandably at a loss for words after pulling off the upset.
His 10-year-old self would be so proud.
