USO CC Day 15, Night Comes In

NEW YORK - SEPTEMBER 08: Roger Federer of Switzerland holds up the trophy after defeating Andy Murray of the United Kingdom to win the 2008 U.S. Open Men's Championship Match in Arthur Ashe Stadium at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on September 8, 2008 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. Evening, all.

So the US Open is in the books.  Serena Williams and Roger Federer have carted off the silverware, leaving first time finalists Jelena Jankovic and Andy Murray to silently ponder their what-might-have-beens.

Murray looked as though he might have been blown off the court by Hurricane Roger after ten games, but he found his way back into the match: Murray wasn't by any means at his best, but he was still fighting when the last ball was struck, and won friends for his effort.

Federer assured the New York crowd that "I'm not going to stop at thirteen, that would be terrible."  He'll have some strenuous opposition trying to deny him.  In his remarks at the trophy ceremony, Federer said "I really feel that tennis is in a great place right now, you know.  We have incredible athletes out there at the moment, a lot of fair play."  Well spoken, I think.  2008 has been a great year for the sport so far, and we have Davis Cup, two Masters tournaments and the YEC to come.

The original CC thread has gone over 1000 posts, so please use this buffer thread to continue to discuss things tennis related or OT.  Ed McGrogan will have a Tuesday Net Post tomorrow, and Pete will weigh in on the tournament later tonight.  I hope you've enjoyed today's tennis.
