USO Crisis Center, Day 5
By Rosangel Valenti, TW Contributing Editor

Good morning. This is today's post for discussing or match-calling the day's tennis at the US Open. The Order of Play is here. We'd appreciate it if you could keep the subject of your conversations focused on the tennis until it's over for the day. Afterwards, it's OK to go off-topic.
Matches of the Day:
**Men's second round -**The evening match on Arthur Ashe Stadium is eighth seed Andy Roddick versus Ernests Gulbis. The two have never played each other before. There's also a first-time matchup between Robby Ginepri and Marin Cilic, second on the Grandstand Court, and later, on the same court, Carlos Moya takes on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, seeded 19. Tsonga won their only match to date, back in 2004.
Fourth on court, Tommy Robredo, seeded 15, will be playing Marat Safin on Armstrong Stadium. The two stand 4-4 in their head-to-head, but haven't played since 2006. Six of their earlier matches went the full distance.
Women's third round - First on Ashe Stadium, Jelena Jankovic versus Wimbledon semifinalist Jie Zheng. Jakivic is 3-1 up in their head-to-head, having most recently beaten Zheng in Miami earlier this year. There's also a first-time meeting between 14th seed Victoria Azarenka and 21st seed Caroline Wozniacki to look forward to, third on the Grandstand Court.
Personally, I'll also try to see some of Anne Keothavong's match with Elena Dementieva, seeded fifth, though I think that Dementieva is the strong favourite in that match despite Keothavong's strong performance against another seed, Francesca Schiavone, in the previous round, and the encouragement to be taken from a strong first set against Venus Williams at Wimbledon. . Dementieva and Keothavong have never played each other before.
Player of the Day:
Julie Coin - the Frenchwoman, ranked 187 in the world, having eliminated the number one seed, Ana Ivanovic.
Weather Report:
The day is expected to be mostly cloudy, with some sun in the earlier part of the day. There is a chance of some scattered showers.
As always. enjoy today's tennis.
