VIDEO: Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Safarova are back at Wimbledon
Bethanie Mattek-Sands suffered a gruesome knee injury last summer at Wimbledon, but the 33-year-old has since made a comeback to the court.
The American has had a mixed bag of results during her return, but there are reasons to believe she might be ready to compete at a high level again in doubles. And who better for Mattek-Sands to compete with than her proven playing partner, Lucie Safarova?
Together, Mattek-Sands and Safarova have won five Grand Slam titles—the most recent coming at Roland Garros in 2017. They were looking to win their fourth major in a row together before Mattek-Sands went down at Wimbledon.
It was unclear if a reunion was in the cards, but recently, Safarova announced that "Team Bucie" will be joining forces again—at Wimbledon, of all places:
It won't be easy for Mattek-Sands and Safarova, who will need to quickly rekindle their title-winning form if they hope to challenge for another major at the All England Club, but it will definitely be a lot of fun to see them competing alongside one another once again.
