The Serbian needed 10 match points to oust the fast-rising 21-year-old, but he eventually got it done, advancing to a third-round showdown with Dominic Thiem.

Nadal blew through his first ATP win since January over Aljaz Bedene, 6-1, 6-3 on Wednesday. The 31-year-old is keeping his goals in Monte Carlo simple—despite his 10 titles—by just wanting to complete the tournament without retiring.
