And who said the women's 2017 Roland Garros draw lacked star power? A new star was born on Saturday in Paris when 20-year-old Jelena Ostapenko defeated Simona Halep 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
She'll be famous for the title run, and for that insane net cord shot. The Latvian was down a set and 3-0, before storming back to even the match. In the third set, a crucial net cord at break point in the seventh game gave Ostapenko all the momentum she needed to pull off the upset.
The Latvian set a bunch of records along the way:
It was a stunning accomplishment for the world No. 47 and nobody was more excited than she was:
She showed off her wide variety of emotions while ousting champions like Monica Puig, Samantha Stosur, Caroline Wozniacki, Timea Bacsinszky and Halep to win the crown:
The fact that she's now a Roland Garros champion hasn't sunk in yet:
But it has to soon as Ostapenko will rise to No. 12 in the rankings on Monday.
