WATCH: Thiem smashes racket while going winless in Asia

The Austrian hasn't won a match since the US Open.

Dominic Thiem cannot be in a good mood right now.Ā  The world No. 7 lost his third-straight match, falling to Viktor Troicki in his Shanghai opener. It's also Thiem's third career loss to the Serb.

There were still some signature flashes of brillianceĀ from Thiem's racket:

Since his heartbreaking US Open fourth-round loss to Juan Martin del Potro, Thiem has lost all of his matches on tourĀ (he did win two Davis Cup matches and a Laver Cup round). With Shanghai the last event in Asia, Thiem leaves the Far East winless (he fell to Guido Pella in Chengdu and Steve Johnson in Tokyo).

The 24-year-oldĀ is still seeking an indoor ATP title, having won eight career titles on every surface outdoors.

Despite the late-season slump, Thiem is expected to rise to a career-high ranking of No. 6, and he's on the cusp of qualifying for the ATP World Tour Finals in London. All is far from lost for the Austrian.
