WATCH: Tiafoe starts 2019 with a ball hit at Federer's face

When the clock struck midnight, Frances Tiafoe probably didn't think he would almost injure Roger Federer on the first day of the new year. On Tuesday in Perth, playing alongside Serena Williams, the American sent a ball flying straight into the world No. 3’s face.

Thankfully, Federer shook it off and the two exchanged laughs before getting back to the match. Federer and Belinda Bencic eventually defeated the American duo, 4-2, 4-3 (3).

Though an exhibition the match was taken very seriously especially with the team’s tied at 1-all after Federer beat Tiafoe and Williams overcame Bencic.
