FORT WORTH, Texas—The 2022 WTA Finals is tennis with a Texas twist, and the Elite 8 are embracing the Southern flair with some full-throated attempts at a country twang.

Coco Gauff has the most experience with the accent—having played her share of junior tournaments in the Lone Star State—and fondly recalls the locals’ penchant for pronouncing “Gauff” like “Gowff.”

“They love to say my name that way!” exclaims the Atlanta native.

Fellow WTA Finalists Ons Jabeur and Maria Sakkari had more varying levels of success, but not for lack of trying.
