Wawrinka hopes to take advantage of a 'less confident' Murray in Paris

PARIS—Stan Wawrinka, who will face Andy Murray in the semis at the French Open for the second year in a row, says it will be a different match in different conditions.
Last year in the semis in Paris, the Scot beat the Swiss, 6-4, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
“I adapt my tennis, we always adapt,” said Wawrinka, who won the French Open in 2015. “Depends on the conditions. Against a guy like Murray, I'm playing a different game than when I play against [Gael] Monfils. Trying to mix a little bit more the speed, trying to play some higher balls, slice—take the control when I can, but not to give him the same rhythm all the time.”
While Murray leads 10-7 in their career meetings, Wawrinka has won their other two encounters on clay, beating Murray in Rome in 2008 and in Monte Carlo in 2013.
Wawrinka said that in their 2016 encounter in Paris, Murray was very aggressive and consistent. This season, Murray is ranked No. 1 but has won just one event.
“I think it will be an interesting match,” Wawrinka said. “The conditions are a little different. [Murray] is probably a bit less confident. He's a bit more hesitant. Hopefully, I can take advantage of that and find solutions to beat him.”
Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka's semifinal clash will be broadcast live on Tennis Channel at 6:45 Eastern Time.
