Halep Stuns Serena

The Romanian had won just one match in 10 tries against the American. The only time she had scored a victory was in the 2014 WTA Finals in Singapore, and had lost six consecutive encounters since then.

Since becoming a mom, Serena has now lost in three major finals—at the 2018 Wimbledon to Angelique Kerber, 2018 US Open to Naomi Osaka and now 2019 Wimbledon to Halep.

Lopsided Affair

Halep surrendered just four games en route to her victory on Saturday—she saved the only break point she faced in the match.

Can't Catch a Break

The seven-time Wimbledon champion has yet to win a set in a final since claiming the 2017 Australian Open.

The final featured seventh-seeded Halep and 11th-seeded Serena. The Top 5 seeds—Ashleigh Barty, Naomi Osaka, Karolina Pliskova, Kiki Bertens, and Angelique Kerber, respectively—failed to reach the quarterfinals.
