Who is Kaja Juvan, the Slovakian who won a set off of Serena Williams? She’s an 18-year-old qualifier who only won her first Grand Slam match this week and then lost to Williams, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. She was ranked as high as No. 5 on the junior tour—but never won a junior Grand Slam match. She captured other titles though including the 2017 Orange Bowl.

Nick Kyrgios hit the second-fastest serve in recorded history with a 143 m.p.h. bomb. That’s just one m.p.h. behind Sam Groth’s record. He still lost to Rafael Nadal, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3), but put on quite a show, and had his chances to upset the world No. 2. The Aussie took his chances in press though:

Q. Going to the pub last night, do you think you could have played a bit better if you hadn't?

Kyrgios: No. You look way too excited to ask that question. You must have a really boring life.

Kei Crushes

Kei Nishikori has quietly won two rounds in straight sets and as the No. 8 seed that might not seem such a big deal. It’s actually the first time he’s won two straight-set matches at a Slam (without a retirement) since Roland Garros in 2016. He'll play Steve Johnson in the third round.

Japan's Kei Nishikori crouches after a long rally against Britain's Cameron Norrie during their men's singles second round match on the fourth day of the 2019 Wimbledon Championships at The All England Lawn Tennis Club in Wimbledon, southwest London, on July 4, 2019. Safarova Expecting

Lucie Safarova is not playing Wimbledon because she retired just a few short months ago. The Czech had happy news to share already: she’s expecting a baby.  Though she and her usual partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands never won Wimbledon, Safarova was a singles semifinalist in 2014.
