Martina Hingis plays Kim Clijsters tomorrow in the quarterfinals here in Melbourne, and it ought to be a great test of the degree to which Hingis’s game can withstand the pressures applied to it by today’s top competitors.

Lindsay Davenport has a way with words, and a comment she made the other day is a trenchant gem that puts Hingis’s situation into perfect, simple perspective:
