World congratulates first-time major winner Wozniacki

Pretty much everyone on the planet was delighted to see Caroline Wozniacki finally hoist a Grand Slam trophy at the Australian Open.

Wozniacki mustered up all the fight she had to push past top seed Simona Halep 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-4 in a dramatic final in Rod Laver Arena.

The match did not disappoint as the Melbourne crowd witnessed momentum swings aplenty. Wozniacki had to fight back from 3-4 and a break down in the final set to steal all the glory.

The 27-year-old officially returns to the top of the WTA rankings. She held that lofty position for 67 weeks from 2010-2012.

One of the sport’s biggest stars cracked a few jokes during her victory speech, already revealing her next goal.

“I’m hoping that I’m finally going to get that ELLE cover,” Wozniacki said.

"I'm just taking a second to hug 'Daphne'! I've dreamt of this moment for so many years, to be here is a dream come true,” she said, wasting no time in naming her trophy.

Fans and friends from around the globe also wasted no time in congratulating her:

Legends of the game including Boris Becker, Rod Laver and Tracy Austin welcomed Wozniacki into the champion's club.

Two of the Dane’s celebrity athlete friends congratulated her as well:

Wozniacki has made history by becoming the first Danish player to win a major crown.
